Tips for Family Vacation Packing
The most important tip for packing is to invest in a quality hard shell suitcase.
We had soft suitcases when we went on our honeymoon. Andrew’s was stuck in the doorway due to a large rip in his luggage and half of Andrew’s clothes were soaked. We switched to heavy shell luggage after that and haven’t looked back. This Samsonite set has been on more than a dozen flights, and it still looks brand-new.
Don’t be afraid of packing multiple people into one suitcase once you have your suitcases.
Paul and me can fit in our 26-inch suitcases for a week-long vacation. Madison then packs the 22 inch and both boys take a 24-inch suitcase. Madison also takes a 26-inch bag.
Next, the packing boxes.
To be honest, I was skeptical when I saw bloggers rave about them. It’s a shame that I waited so long to get my hands on them. My clothes are divided by day wear, swimsuits and pajamas as well as intimates. Once we get on vacation, I simply put the dirty clothes in the drawers. Many packing boxes include dirty clothes bags so you can bring your dirty laundry home. The packing cubes are only for clothes. Andrew’s items aren’t as deep as mine so I don’t use them as often.
Packing shoes is a matter of personal preference.
I stick the heavier-duty ones at the bottom and then add the flats and the lightweight sandals to the top. This will level out any empty spaces.
My travel Steamer is my best friend.
It is the perfect size, and will not take up too much space in your luggage. I no longer own an iron at home. Nobody wants to go to dinner in a new dress that is wrinkled.
Hang a toiletry bag!
This backpack was my best friend when I went to Vegas last year. It allowed me to keep all of my stuff in one place, even though we shared the bathroom. This bag holds everything I need, including makeup, jewelry, and toiletries. You won’t lose anything when you travel because it closes perfectly and every compartment zips shut.
